Everton fans revelled in Manchester City’s title win over Liverpool on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola’s men beat Brighton 4-1 to secure back-to-back Premier League titles at the expense of the Reds, who finished second on 97 points.
Despite being seven points clear at the top of the league at Christmas, Liverpool’s 29-year wait for a top-flight title goes on.
Naturally, fans of Merseyside rivals Everton lapped it up after watching their side end the season with a 2-2 draw at Tottenham, singing ‘You lost the league at Goodison Park’ in reference to their goalless draw with Jurgen Klopp’s side in March.
With the Reds finishing a point behind City, they could look back on that game with regret as Mohamed Salah spurned two glorious chances to score.
But few people would have seen City winning 14 successive Premier League games, including victories over Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham.
And even with Liverpool’s nine successive wins in the title run-in, it was not enough to topple the Citizens.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who has a Champions League final against Tottenham on June 1 to look forward to, hailed his side as ‘one of the best ever’.
He said: “There’s a lot to come, a lot of years and it’s all about you, what you do with it – and that’s what we do with it.
“People will tell us now it’s 30 years [since Liverpool won the league] but they have bigger problems, to be honest, all the people who will say that.
“We will go again. This team tried it for the first time and I really think they did quite impressively to try the first time.

“And, on this road, to qualify for the Champions League final is pretty special. This team is one of the best that ever played for Liverpool, 100 per cent.
“But we play in a league with other very good teams, that’s what we have to accept and we do accept, no problem.
“We will go again, 100 per cent. But give me at least a few hours to come over that today.”
