Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish hails ‘unbelievable achievement’ after stunning Champions League comeback against Barcelona

Kenny Dalglish has applauded Liverpool’s ‘unbelievable achievement’ after they staged one of the greatest Champions League comebacks of all time to beat Barcelona.

Jurgen Klopp’s men looked down and out after their 3-0 first leg defeat at the Nou Camp, but the team and their manager’s ‘never say die’ attitude reigned supreme as they rallied back at Anfield, winning 4-0 to book their place in a second successive final.

The ‘Miracle of Merseyside’ has already been dubbed one of the best nights in Liverpool’s history, with three-time European Cup winner Phil Thompson telling talkSPORT it was ‘the most astonishing match I’ve even seen at Anfield’.

However, King Kenny – who watched from the stands – believes coming back to beat the Spanish champions 4-0 is actually one of the greatest results in the history of football.

Speaking at the Betfred British Masters, the Reds icon said: “This will be the best not just at Anfield, but most football clubs.

“To come from three goals behind against one of the best teams in the world and beat them 4-0, it’s got to be one of the best.

“It’s an unbelievable achievement for everybody involved with Liverpool.

“It’s an unbelievable achievement to beat anybody 4-0, but especially a team with the quality of Barcelona.

“You’re not going to get a 4-0 win over Barcelona if you’re carrying any passengers. Trent was really sharp for the fourth goal at the corner and throughout the game everyone playing was right up for it.

“They got what they deserved, the victory, in this game.

“The scoreline over there [at the Nou Camp] didn’t reflect our performance, it was a lot better than 3-0, and yet with the final kick of the game Dembele missed a really good opportunity for Barcelona and that proved to be decisive for us.”
