Venezuelan player has contract terminated for scuffing Panenka penalty in Copa Sudamerica shootout

He went for a chip to try and beat Diego Novoa but could only hit it against his chest.

Independiente were dumped out of the competition and Parra had his contract terminated as a result.

Club president Eriberto Gamarra told ABC Cardinal: â€Å“The board of directors decided to dismiss Brendix Parra for the way he kicked the penalty.

â€Å“If we had qualified to the next round each player would have earned a bit of money.”

Parra appears to have taken the news well, though. â€Å“It’s a difficult situation, but life goes on,” he said.
