Romelu Lukaku transfer: Man United forward wants to play in different countries and will discuss Old Trafford future this summer, agent says

Romelu Lukaku will discuss his Manchester United future this summer as he desires to play abroad throughout his career, the forward’s agent has revealed.

Lukaku, the Belgium international, is nearing the end of his second season at Old Trafford, having first joined the Red Devils from Everton in July 2017.

United became the fourth English club Lukaku has represented, following spells with the Toffees, West Brom, and Chelsea – who brought him to the Premier League from Belgium.

The 25-year-old, who has won 79 caps for Belgium, began his career with Anderlecht, and his agent, Federico Pastorello, says Lukaku sees himself moving abroad before the end of his career.

“He likes Italy,” Pastorello told Sky Sports. “When he was a child he followed a lot the Italian league.

“Everybody agrees today the Premier League is the best but years ago Italy was the best and they were the dreams for the younger footballer players.

“Teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona of course attract any champion so he sees also in LaLiga one day. Bundesliga for sure is a very good championship.”

Despite Lukaku’s desire to play in some of Europe’s biggest leagues after a lengthy spell in England, there is no guarantee he will look to leave Manchester United this summer, with the forward only assessing his options at the end of the season.

“At the moment he is very focused on finishing the season,” Pastorello continued.

“The competition for third and fourth place in England is very tight so let’s see what will happen in the future at the end the season.

“It’s his second season here and he will still have three years on his contract until the end. Let’s see. He’s someone who loves to know a different culture, a different football.

“He sees a way to have a career playing in different countries because he would like to win some trophies and prove himself and say to his children ‘I won there and I won there and I won there’ and ‘I was a very good player in all the top championships’ so let’s see, the future is really very open but, at the moment, we don’t discuss about that because really the season is in a big moment.”

His manager Mauricio Pochettino duly saluted him and his Tottenham teammates as heroes after the 3-0 Champions League last-16, first-leg win as they took a huge step towards reaching the quarter-finals for the first time since 2011.
Spurs had been under pressure as Dortmund dominated the first half but were sparked into life by a fine finish from forward Son Heung-min after the interval.

Insisting his players deserved all the praise after emerging from a gruelling schedule, Pochettino said: "It was a fantastic game, a massive effort. My players are heroes. They deserve a lot of praise for the effort they are doing this season.
"Sonny was fantastic again. He translates good energy and his performance in every game is improving. We're so happy.
"3-0 is a very good result, but we must go to Dortmund (on March 5) with the idea of winning. There is a lot of work to do."

This was his fourth goal in successive games and it came as a welcome riposte after all the pressure that Spurs had endured from the lively Sancho in the first half.
One moment the South Korean was chatting to Dortmund captain Mario Gotze as the teams prepared to restart, and the next he was scoring.
With the goal, Spurs were almost unrecognisable from the first half.
They looked like far more intelligent, incisive, heavyweight European campaigners. And Son's excellence continued with good passes and then running shrewdly into space for Eriksen to pick out.
"The first half was very difficult. We didn't feel the confidence to play," said Pochettino.
"At half-time, we showed them a few situations that could have been different. We tried to help the team make the right decisions and perform in the best way.
"Maybe today everyone will say it was a fantastic decision. If it was a different result, people might say I'm the worst coach in the world."

Ken Anderson’s Bolton fiasco is ‘the worst kind of ownership you can ever see’, says Simon Jordan on talkSPORT

Simon Jordan has blasted Ken Anderson’s ownership of Bolton Wanderers as ‘the worst you can ever see’, after the Championship club were handed a stay of execution by the High Court.

The Trotters had faced administration or liquidation over an unpaid tax bill of £1.2million, but at a High Court hearing on Wednesday they were given time to settle their debts and avoid a winding-up order.

They now have two weeks to find a new buyer, after the club confirmed on Tuesday night that a proposed takeover had collapsed.

It’s the sixth time in 16 months that Bolton have fended off a winding-up petition due to unpaid tax and VAT, having won a similar stay of execution three years ago to allow previous owner Sports Shield BWFC to complete a last-minute takeover.

Current owner Anderson bought a stake in the club during that buy-out and took majority control in 2017 after Sports Shield went into liquidation.

But Anderson, who owns 94.5 per cent of the club’s shares, has come under fire for struggling to finance the running costs of the club.

And former Crystal Palace owner Jordan blasted Anderson’s failures on talkSPORT on Wednesday afternoon.

Speaking to Jim White, he said: “I think they’ve been badly managed by a variety of people and the latest instalment is Ken Anderson.

“The main threat is whether they are going to get a wind-up petition to stick, and I don’t think they will. But if they did, I’d be concerned for Ken.

“If he’s allowed this to happen, rather than take the easier route to go into administration where he can still make a deal, and he puts Bolton in a situation where they are liquidated, then that is the most irresponsible ownership; even worse than what they experienced at Leyton Orient, even worse than what they have experienced with Roland Duchatelet at Charlton.

“This is the worst kind of ownership you could ever see.”

Bolton have struggled to pay the wages of their players and wider club staff over the course of the season.

Trotters stars received their salaries for February late, while the was doubt over whether their recent game against Millwall – a 2-1 win for the Greater Manchester side – would go ahead over policing costs.

Bolton currently sit second from bottom in the Championship table and would face a 12-point deduction if they fail to settle their debts.

Anderson has been branded a ‘rogue chairman’ for his failure to financially back the club since his takeover.

And Jordan said the Trotters chief has ‘no business in being involved in football’.

“If you buy a club, you’re going to have to go into your pocket and fund it,” he added.

“You don’t get a free pass. You don’t get to go in there and pay yourself, you have to support the football club.

“I don’t believe that is what’s happened at Bolton, I believe that it’s been seen as an opportunity to make money from the club.

“There’s nothing wrong with owners making money from a football club, as long as they’ve done their bit and their responsibility of building the club up. When the club is successful, everybody should share, as long as that means the club’s advancement is not stopped.

“I can only assume that Ken wants to be able to achieve the maximum return for Ken, at the same time as Bolton.

“When you take on a football club you have a responsibility, you become a custodian of it. Especially a club in a situation like Bolton sitting in the Championship, it needs investment otherwise you have no business in being involved in football.”

“I think we’ve just (got) to relax for a few days and have a think about everything,” said Warnock, after the defeat to Crystal Palace which consigned his side to the drop.

“I’ve got to let things settle and not do anything rash. I’ve not spoken to anybody. You can’t make rash judgements at this stage of the season with one game to go.

“Mehmet has been amazing with me, so I’m sure we will have a chat, either today, this weekend or the next couple of weeks.

“I will be working next year, I will have a year somewhere. I am looking forward to that challenge again now.”

Speaking to talkSPORT after the dramatic 3-2 reverse at home to Palace, Warnock praised the efforts of his side as he claimed this season has been the best of his 40-year managerial career.

Written off by many following their surprise promotion from the Championship, Cardiff have battled bravely against the odds in the top-flight and have had to contend with the tragic death of record signing Emiliano Sala.

“When I came to the club it was in a difficult situation, it was a torn apart a little bit. Now we have united the club and we are alive and kicking,” said Warnock.

“I bet there has never been a team relegated where the fans have made such a noise after the game. They are amazing the fans, they have been all season, and I am right proud to manage them.

“This is my 40th year in management and I think it’s one of the best seasons – if not the best season – I’ve ever had in management with what I have had to go through and still be looking as handsome as I am.”

Warnock refuses to be downbeat about Cardiff’s relegation and says the tragic death of Sala puts everything into perspective.

“I’ve had 40 years in management and you have more or less seen everything that can be thrown at you, but this came out of the blue,” he said.

“It puts it into perspective. We’ve got relegated but the lad has lost his life. We are disappointed but we can go again.

“Emiliano, I spent a couple of months getting him and I told him ‘we are going to create chances and you are going to score them’ because I’m sure he would have done.

“I thought ten goals in the second half of the season from him would have definitely got us safe.

“It was a major blow at a time where we couldn’t really go out and get anybody else.

“I don’t think I realised at the time emotionally how much it took out of me because it did. It was a very, very difficult time.”

Harry Kane starts for Tottenham in their Champions League final against Liverpool in Madrid.

The England captain has not played a competitive match for almost two months due to a ‘significant’ ankle injury suffered in April.

Harry Winks, who has been out for nearly two months with a hip problem, is also named in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI for the all-English showpiece.

Meanwhile, Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino also returns from injury to start up front for the Reds.
