Florent Malouda: Chelsea legend ‘didn’t know’ about his release from FC Zurich until club announced it on Twitter

Florent Malouda claims he found out about his release from FC Zurich when the club announced it on Twitter.

The 38-year-old retired as a player last year and was last at Luxembourg̢۪s FC Differdange 03.

He then joined Zurich in February as a coach.

The club announced on Thursday morning, though, that they had released the Chelsea legend by ‘mutual agreement’.

A statement read: â€Å“FC Zurich and Florent Malouda have decided by mutual agreement to end the recently started cooperation.

â€Å“It turns out that the various projects in which Florent Malouda remains involved are not compatible with the tasks planned by the FCZ.

â€Å“We wish Florent Malouda good luck and success on his future career path.”

It appears someone forgot to tell Malouda of the news, though.

He replied: â€Å“Really I didn’t know that…??”

The former winger spent six seasons at Stamford Bridge where he won the Premier League, Champions League and three FA Cups.

Prior to joining the Blues, Malouda enjoyed success with Lyon where he won four back-to-back Ligue 1 titles.

Liverpool legend Dietmar Hamann tips West Ham to beat ‘exceptionally ordinary’ Manchester United as he claims Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to oversee a ‘serious rebuild’

Dietmar Hamann believes West Ham United can complete a Premier League double over an ‘exceptionally ordinary’ Manchester United side on Saturday evening.

The game, which kicks off at 5.30pm, will be live for fans to listen to for free on talkSPORT from Old Trafford.

The momentum has slowed somewhat for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United

When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer succeeded Jose Mourinho in December, the Norwegian seemed to have turned the club’s fortunes around.

However, defeat to the east Londoners at home will be United’s fifth in their previous six in all competitions – a run they have not endured since 1992.

And Hamann, who represented rivals Liverpool on 283 occasions, believes Solskjaer’s honeymoon period is almost over.

â€Å“(Manchester) United look an exceptionally ordinary side at the moment,” the midfielder wrote in his Racing Post column.

“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has improved results and lifted spirits after the Mourinho disaster, but this is still a team – indeed a club – in serious need of a rebuild.

Recent wins have merely papered over the cracks because their performances haven’t been convincing. West Ham can put the brakes on them.”

The Hammers themselves are in something, with neither the threat of relegation nor the promise of European qualification able to inject much enthusiasm into Manuel Pellegrini’s beleaguered side.

The 28-year-old’s inconsistent form has seen him dropped from England’s squad for the Nations League finals.

Spurs are understood to be willing to let Trippier leave this summer and he has been linked with a move to Serie A clubs Napoli and Juventus.

Following the disappointment of their Champions League final defeat to Liverpool he was asked about his future.

Trippier said: “I don’t know. I go home now, spend time with my family, just recover after a long, difficult season. Everybody’s got a decision to make, no matter what.

“Obviously this club has been very good for me over the last few years but I’ll enjoy my summer, come back in pre-season and that’s when I’ll sit down with the manager and have a talk about my future.

“I see a lot of speculation about me not being here. I give everything, 100 per cent every game, win lose or draw. So we’ll see what happens in pre-season.”

The defender would not be short of suitors if he were to leave Tottenham, though, as Atletico Madrid are also keen on signing him along with the two Serie A teams.

He was signed by Spurs in 2015 for £3.5million from Burnley to provide competition for Kyle Walker.

Following Walker’s departure for Manchester City, Trippier has seen more time in the starting line-up.

“I want to stay in England. But what can you do?” he added. “I’ll see what happens and what the club wants, most importantly.

“I give everything for this club – training sessions, games – so we’ll see what happens in pre-season.”

How Juventus could line up next season by beating Manchester United and Liverpool to European wonderkids

How Juventus could line up next season by beating Manchester United and Liverpool to European wonderkids

Cristiano Ronaldo has not managed to get to the top of world football by waiting for things to come to him.

The ruthlessly driven Juventus striker is renowned for his dedication and attitude, be it to training or his personal life.

Cristiano Ronaldo wants SIX new players at Juventus

4

Cristiano Ronaldo wants SIX new players at Juventus

After wrapping up the Serie A title at the weekend, the 34-year-old is now the only man in history to have won titles in Italy, Spain and England.

Naturally, what the five-time Ballon d’Or wants tends to happen. According to reports from Italy, Ronaldo has presented managed Massimiliano Allegri with a shortlist of six names he wants brought to join him in Turin.

Benfica wonderkid Joao Felix, Real Madrid duo Raphael Varane and Isco, European wonderkids Tanguy Ndombele and Federico Chiesa and Manchester United target Kostas Manolas are all on transfer targets for the Old Lady this summer.

Should the bianconeri manage to pull off one of the most spectacular transfer spending sprees in history, their team for next season could well be unstoppable.

Aaron Ramsey is already on his way to Turin next season

4

Aaron Ramsey is already on his way to Turin next season

With Ronaldo turning 35 before the end of 2019, the Portugal captain will be all-too aware his time at the top must surely be coming to an end.

The former Manchester Unite forward’s desire to add a sixth Champions League trophy to his repertoire will surely see at least one or two of these transfer targets achieved.

And with Aaron Ramsey already on the way from Arsenal, Juve could have a serious side next year.

Check it out below!

Here’s how Juventus *could* cram their new stars in

Here’s how Juventus *could* cram their new stars in

Perhaps the biggest overhaul to this side would be at the back, replacing Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci with two younger defenders.

Varane and Manolas are physically dominant centre-halves, with the capabilities to also play out from the back.

In midfield, Ramsey is expected to slot in and challenge Emre Can and Miralem Pjanic for a starting berth. Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have been chasing Tanguy Ndombele of Lyon, so securing his signature would be huge for Juve.

Although Isco is a firm favourite of Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane, selling the midfielder would raise extra funds for a proposed revamp at the Bernabeu.

Federico Chiesa has been in sparkling form in Serie A and reports from Italy suggest La Viola will look to cash in on their star man. But the biggest acquisition would undoubtedly be Joao Felix.

Aged just 19, the Benfica forward has burst onto the scene in Portugal and is wanted by a host of top European clubs.

Already hailed as Ronaldo’s successor, Liverpool and Manchester United are both reportedly keen on the talented teen tearing up Europe.

Northern Ireland 2-1 Belarus: Late Josh Magennis strike sees Michael O’Neill’s men go top of Euro 2020 qualifying group

Josh Magennis’ late goal ensured Northern Ireland continued their 100 per cent start to their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign with a 2-1 win over Belarus at Windsor Park.

Jonny Evans nodded Michael O’Neill’s men in front after half an hour but Ihar Stasevich’s deflected effort pegged them back.

Northern Ireland are top of Group C – a group that contains Germany and the Netherlands

It looked like it was going to be a frustrating night for the Green and White Army but substitute Magennis fired home on 87 minutes to secure the three points.

Northern Ireland, who beat Estonia 2-0 in the first group match, are top of Group C after Germany claimed a dramatic 3-2 victory over the Netherlands in Amsterdam.

Belarus arrived in Belfast on the back of a 4-0 thrashing by the Dutch on Thursday, and Northern Ireland were hoping for easy pickings.

But after coach Igor Kruishenko made five changes, including the restoration of 37-year-old former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder Aleksandr Hleb to midfield, they would prove stubborn opposition to break down.

After a slow and often scrappy start, Paddy McNair produced Northern Ireland’s first chance after 20 minutes, turning his man and cutting inside before hitting a rising shot which Andrei Klimovich clawed to safety.

Just before the half-hour, Kyle Lafferty hit an optimistic raking shot from distance but after it bounced awkwardly for Klimovich, Northern Ireland would make the resulting corner pay.

They took it short, with Niall McGinn’s corner flicked on by Steven Davis for an unmarked Evans to head home.

But the celebrations lasted less than three minutes before Belarus hit back. As the Northern Ireland defenders stood off, Stasevich hit a shot from the edge of the area which deflected off Stuart Dallas to loop up and over Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

4

Belarus stifled Northern Ireland well after getting the equaliser

Northern Ireland sought a response, but though Dallas’ long throw fell for George Saville inside the goal area, the angle was tight and the Middlesbrough man shot straight at Klimovich.

Jordan Jones, having done well to keep in an over-hit pass, then played a dangerous ball in but Lafferty stood flat-footed as it whistled across the face of goal, keeping it all square at the break.

Lafferty’s blushes were spared by the assistant’s flag four minutes into the second half, when he really should have nudged home McNair’s cross from point-blank range.

McNair was next to try his luck when the ball rolled out invitingly for him in the 58th minute, but Mikhail Sivakov stood strong to repel the shot.

The game looked all set for a draw as Northern Ireland huffed and puffed on Belarus

4

Northern Ireland continued to build pressure, forcing Belarus further and further back.

Lafferty tried a looping shot with his back to goal but could not keep it down before Dallas surged into the box but saw his low cross – looking for Lafferty – cut out for a corner.

Lafferty spurned another chance in the 77th minute as Lewis’ cross seemed to skim off the top of his head with the goal gaping, with the Rangers striker guilty of not attacking the ball.

It would prove his last involvement as he was swiftly replaced by Liam Boyce.

O’Neill also threw on Shane Ferguson with five minutes to go, with Northern Ireland continuing to pour forward.

They got their reward three minutes from time with one of the best moves of the game.

Magennis got the winning goal three minutes before the end of the 90

Magennis got the winning goal three minutes before the end of the 90

Magennis started it by bringing down a long ball and spreading it wide for Dallas, who in turn fed McNair. His low cross was perfectly placed for Magennis to turn it home with a simple finish.

Belarus responded with a late burst of pressure, requiring Peacock-Farrell to make a close-range save from Pavel Nekhaychik, but Northern Ireland hung on for victory to the delight of Windsor Park.

John Delaney moves from CEO to executive vice-president of the Football Association of Ireland

John Delaney is to step aside as chief executive of the Football Association of Ireland to take up the newly-created post of executive vice-president.

Delaney, who has spent the past week defending himself after newspaper reports suggested that he loaned the association £100,000 to cover a cash-flow problem in 2017, has left his current post with immediate effect.

2

John Delaney has left his role with the FAI

The news was confirmed in an FAI statement released on Saturday evening just minutes after Ireland’s 1-0 Euro 2020 qualifier victory in Gibraltar, at which he was present.

It said: “The Board of the Football Association of Ireland has adopted a review of its senior management structure that will see chief executive officer John Delaney move to a new position of executive vice-president with immediate effect.

“Chief operating officer Rea Walshe has been appointed to the role of Interim CEO by the Board as the recruitment process begins for a new chief executive officer.”

“Delaney’s new role will see him take responsibility for “a range of international matters and special projects on behalf of the FAI”.

FAI president Donal Conway said: “On behalf of the board and the members of the association, I want to thank John for everything he has done for the FAI and for Irish football. He has transformed how we operate as an association.

“This new role will allow John to utilise his vast experience and connections in the world of football and will best serve the FAI as we look to the future and our new strategic plan for Irish football which is currently a work in progress.

“John will continue to represent us at UEFA level as we look ahead to next year when the Aviva Stadium will host four games at the EURO 2020 finals thanks to his influence at European level.

“We host the UEFA European Under-17 Championship finals this summer, which will bring 9,000 bed spaces to Dublin, we celebrate the centenaries of the FAI and the SSE Airtricity League early in the new decade and the bi-centenary of the women’s game in Ireland.

“John is already leading our joint-bid with the Irish FA for the UEFA Under-21 Championships in 2023 and is working closely with the FAs in Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales on the feasibility of a joint bid for the 2030 World Cup.

“John’s life has been devoted to Irish football and he will bring the same energy, vitality and inspiration to this new role. We will now begin the recruitment process for a new CEO with an expected appointment ahead of our AGM in Trim at the end of July.”

Delaney was installed as chief executive in March 2005 and his at times controversial tenure saw him preside over the redevelopment of the Aviva Stadium and its financial implications.

He said: “There have been many challenges for Irish football in my time as CEO and I will be the first to acknowledge that, but I have always given my best for Irish football and I will continue to do that in this new role.

“This past fortnight has been very difficult for me on a personal and professional level, and I would like to thank the Board and my work colleagues across the FAI for their support.

“It is time now for a new start and I am really looking forward to serving Irish football as best I can as executive vice-president.”
