Gabriel Zakuani: Gillingham footballer’s 11-year-old son found after going missing on Wednesday

Gillingham footballer Gabriel Zakuani’s 11-year-old son has been found, Surrey Police have confirmed.

An appeal was made on Thursday for help finding Ajae Blackwood-Petrie, from Epsom, who was reported missing on April 24 after failing to return home from school.

The 11-year-old is the son of former Fulham and Peterborough defender Zakuani, who currently plays for Gillingham.

Zakuani, 33, posted an appeal for help on social media platform Twitter on Thursday afternoon.

Zakuani wrote: “My 11 year old boy is missing and hasn’t been seen since he left school yesterday on his way to the bus stop, anyone with any kind of information please contact Surrey Police or Met Police. Please share. Really appreciate it.”

Blackwood-Petrie was later found safe and well in the Isle of Dogs area of London, Surrey Police said in a statement.

“An 11-year-old boy from Epsom who went missing yesterday has been found safe and well,” the statement read.

Zakuani posted a further message on Twitter to thank those who assisted the search for Blackwood-Petrie.

He wrote: “Seriously can’t thank you all enough! I’m relieved he’s been found in London. Seriously hope I never go through that again! once again, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart I’m so grateful.”

Everton transfer news: Marco Silva lines up alternative targets if Toffees fail to sign Andre Gomes and Kurt Zouma

Everton have identified alternative targets if they fail to sign Andre Gomes and Kurt Zouma permanently this summer.

The duo enjoyed spectacular seasons at Goodison Park and Marco Silva is understandably keen to bring both back on permanent contracts.

However, should deals with both Chelsea and Barcelona fail to come to fruition, Silva will not hesitate to switch his attention elsewhere.

“Even if I would like to be able to say ‘Zouma and Andre’ and nobody else – and I know our fans would like to hear that coming from me and us as a club – of course when you plan something you cannot just plan with one,” Silva confirmed.

“We have to have A, B, C, D or whatever. Even if you know the A will Andre and Zouma and that they will be the best for us.”

While the Portuguese refused to commit to a deadline to signing both men, there will inevitably come a point where the Toffees have to leave the negotiating table.

“Each day, let’s see what will happen and each week we have to analyse and to see,” he said.

Christian Pulisic says it would be great to play alongside Eden Hazard at Chelsea despite Belgian’s links with Real Madrid

Christian Pulisic says it would be ‘great’ to play alongside Eden Hazard at Chelsea despite the rumours linking the Belgian with a lucrative move to Real Madrid.

Hazard, 28, appears poised to move to the Bernabeu with the Blues reportedly willing to sell him for £87million this summer.

Chelsea acted in January by signing Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund for next season in a deal thought to be in the region of £58m.

It’s been suggested the American international was bought in preparation for Hazard’s departure but Pulisic maintains some hope that he will play alongside Chelsea’s star player.

Speaking to talkSPORT’s James Savundra in London, Pulisic said: “I think anyone can play alongside him [Hazard], he’s a great player. It would be great to play with him absolutely. I’m going to come in and give it my best.

“I’ve been able to see on the TV what he’s done and he’s obviously a great player.”

Hazard’s move to Real Madrid this summer appears inevitable

When the Pulisic transfer was confirmed in January, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri claimed to have no knowledge of the deal until it was announced publicly by the club.

But Sarri’s 4-3-3 system should cater well to winger Pulisic’s strengths and the 20-year-old believes his and the Italian’s styles are a ‘great fit’.

Pulisic added: “Chelsea was a place I just couldn’t refuse. I watched Chelsea growing up and saw them have success in Europe and I always think of the team as champions.

“I’ve always wanted to play in the Premier League and it feels like the perfect spot for me.

“I want to come in and make an impact as soon as I can. I’m going to work as hard as I can from day one to make sure I can do that.

Pulisic believes he will fit in well at Chelsea

“I think I’m going to fit in very well [into Sarri’s system]. It’s a very attacking system which will work great for me, on the wings and in great attacking positions. I think it’s a great fit.”

Pulisic arrives at Stamford Bridge knowing he will play Champions League football next season following Chelsea’s third-place finish in the Premier League last season.

There were a lot of negative moments in the 2018/19 campaign and Chelsea finished 26 points off title winners Manchester City and 25 points off runners-up Liverpool.

However, Pulisic believes there’s no reason why his new club can’t challenge for the crown next season.

He said: “People can say what they want but Chelsea had a great end to the season. They’re in the Europa League final and they finished in the Champions League spots for next season.

“Yeah absolutely, that’s our goal [to challenge for the Premier League title]. I think Chelsea is a very confident group and I’m a very confident guy and if we go in with a great attitude there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to.

Pulisic leaves an exciting Dortmund side that took Bayern Munich all the way in the race for the Bundesliga title last season but the Bavarians won their seventh consecutive title on the final day last weekend.

Among Pulisic’s former team-mates are England youngster Jadon Sancho, 19, who enjoyed a breakthrough season at Dortmund – scoring 13 goals and supplying 15 assists in all competitions in 2018/19.

And Pulisic believes Three Lions fans should be excited about what the former Manchester City player can offer in the future.

Pulisic added: “I guess there are lots of great people at Dortmund supporting you from day one. They’ve trusted me all the way and they’ve trusted a lot of young players. It’s a great place to develop.

“[Sancho]. He’s a great player and it’s been amazing to play with him. Playing on the wings with him have been a very exciting time. I can understand why a lot of the English fans are excited. They should be.”

How a ‘Hard Brexit’ would affect the Premier League and it’s great news for Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur

How a ‘Hard Brexit’ would affect the Premier League and it’s great news for Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur

With the country locked in a Brexit crisis, the return of the Premier League this weekend could not have come at a more convenient time.

With Prime Minister Theresa May floundering and the Houses of Parliament in chaos, top-flight football will provide a welcome distraction.

But just imagine what the country would look like had Brexit taken full effect after the referendum in 2016.

Theresa May is somewhat clueless at this current moment in time

3

Theresa May is somewhat clueless at this current moment in time

Thanks to research conducted by Free Super Tips entitled ‘Brexit Effect’, Premier League fans can see just how drastically the landscape of football in this country would be changed.

The study reveals the impact the economy would face if free movement of people was restricted, meaning clubs would be unable to buy players from EU member states.

By taking into account goals, points, squads, minutes played, wages and transfers, the study is able to calculate what the Premier League landscape from the past three season would look like without EU players.

After claiming their first Premier League title in 2016/17, Tottenham Hotspur would have failed in their defence as Liverpool would have edged them to victory last season.

Chelsea’s reliance on EU-based players over the past three seasons would have cost them

3

Chelsea’s reliance on EU-based players over the past three seasons would have cost them

This season, the race for the league would have been as tight as in real life as the Merseysiders would have finished on 94 points – level on points with City.

However, the Reds’ superior goal difference would have seen them pip the Citizens to the trophy for a second successive season.

The other major beneficiaries would have been Leicester City, who would have jumped from tenth to fifth in the division.

Making up the rest of the top 10 would be Everton in 6th on 64 points followed by West Ham (7th on 61 points), Crystal Palace (8th on 57 points), Watford (9th on 57 points and Manchester United (10th on 52 points).

EU RELIANT TEAMS

The study also shows how reliant Premier League teams are on EU players...

  1. Chelsea – 78% of matches played by EU players

  2. Wolves – 68% of matches played by EU players

  3. Huddersfield Town – 55% of matches played by EU players

  4. Arsenal – 49% of matches played by EU players

  5. Manchester United – 49% of matches played by EU players

The biggest losers from Brexit this season would be Wolverhampton Wanderers owing to their reliance on a strong Portuguese contingent – dropping from 7th to 18th.

Huddersfield and Fulham would also unfortunately still be locked firmly in a relegation dogfight.

Last season, Chelsea would have been relegated on 33 points, with Leicester City finishing 4th with 62 points.

Scroll down to see how the current Premier League table would look for the current season.

Arsenal 2-0 Napoli: Aaron Ramsey on target as Gunners seal impressive Europa League win

Aaron Ramsey was in fine form as Arsenal took control of their Europa League quarter-final tie with Napoli as they outclassed their Italian opponents to secure a comfortable 2-0 first-leg victory.

The Gunners extended their fine run of home form, this their 15th win from the last 16 games at the Emirates Stadium, as an Ramsey strike and a Kalidou Koulibaly own goal gave them a welcome lead to take to Naples next week.

Aaron Ramsey scored a delightful opener for the Gunners against Napoli

Gunners boss Unai Emery had admitted on the eve of the game that he knew his team needed to win this first leg, given the stark contrast of their away form when compared to the near-perfect run at home.

They have lost both away knockout ties in this season’s Europa League to BATE Borisov and Rennes, two teams not considered as strong as Napoli – who sit second in Serie A.

Arsenal managed to turn both of those ties around when back in north London but this time they need to defend an advantage as they look to reach the semi-finals for the second year in a row.

The hosts started well and enjoyed plenty of possession as both Ramsey and Ainsley Maitland-Niles saw efforts blocked by Koulibaly as they pushed for an early goal.

Emery’s side made their good start count as Ramsey opened the scoring following a flowing move, latching onto a Maitland-Niles pass after good work by Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette.

The lead was doubled 11 minutes later as Lucas Torreira had the wherewithal to steal possession from Fabian Ruiz and charge at the Napoli goal before his weak shot was diverted past goalkeeper Alex Meret off the leg of Koulibaly.

Unai Emery will have been delighted with his side’s display at the Emirates

Arsenal continued to create chances, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang twice drawing saves off of Meret as the first half wore on, although fit-again captain Lorenzo Insigne passed up a fine opportunity to half the deficit as he blazed over before the interval.

The visitors responded to their poor first-half showing as they attacked from the off after the break, Insigne tucking away a chance only to be correctly flagged offside before Koulibaly saw a header tipped over by Petr Cech.

Arsenal were still creating chances of their own and – following a short-corner routine – Ramsey stung the palms of Meret before Nacho Monreal headed the resulting corner over the crossbar.

With the game more end-to-end than in the first 45 minutes, Dries Mertens failed to connect with a header after Insigne played him in over the top of the Arsenal defence.

With Napoli coming more and more into the game, Emery responded by replacing Ozil and Lacazette with Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for the final quarter of the contest.

Iwobi was involved immediately, starting a counter-attack which resulted in Maitland-Niles drawing another save out of Meret following a marauding run from Sead Kolasinac.

Napoli then missed their best chance of the night as Piotr Zielinski could only send Insigne’s low cross over Petr Cech’s crossbar from close-range.

Ramsey was next to spurn a marvellous opportunity as he spooned Mkhitaryan’s cross well over the bar after being picked out free inside the Napoli box, with Aubameyang hitting the side-netting late on.

The visitors attacked in the dying stages in an attempt to get an away goal but Arsenal stood firm and head to the San Paolo Stadium as the favourites to advance to the last four.
